Midland County Historical Society
Herbert H. Dow Historical Museum, located in Heritage Park, Midland includes displays that chronicle the life of the founder of Dow Chemical Co., Herbert H. Dow, who conducted his pioneering chemical experiments in a nearby shed. The Museum is housed in a replica of a gristmill. Exhibits include Dow’s first office and his father’s workshop. Next to the mill is a replica of the 1890 Midland Chemical Co., Dow’s first manufacturing plant. A laboratory, steam engine and chemical tank help convey the humble beginnings of the Dow Chemical Co.
