ABOUT: This piece is a replication of the piece La Musique by Henri Matisse, which was an oil painting of a female musician playing a guitar with another woman listening closely. This piece was inspired by Matisse’s love of music, as he himself was a musician and often referenced music in his work. The piece was originally 45x48 inches, whereas this replication by artist Jonathan Shaw is roughly 40x45 feet, or 1,800 square feet.
