The Fordney Hotel /Ippel Building Mural

Picture
TITLE: The Fordney Hotel/Ippel Building Mural
ARTIST: Raymond Carrington and Jim Fives
DATE: 2016
TYPE: Mural
MEDIUM: Paint

ABOUT: This file folder shaped sculpture was created by artist Raymond Carrington, as part of a series. Eventually, the piece was obtained by the Saginaw Art Museum. When it was observed that people seemed indifferent about the file folder sculpture, Carrington was contacted about the possibility of a mural about the historic Fordney and Ippel buildings being done on the inside of his “folder”. Carrington loved this idea, as file folders were meant to hold important information. Jim Fives was the artist responsible for the new mural, which shows the Fordney Hotel and the Ippel Buildings in their glory.

Though both buildings have burned down, in 1991 and 2002 respectively, this collaborative project keeps them from being forgotten.
